Episode 050: Redefining ‘infrequent’ since 2005
Ho-ho-ho! Christmas comes a few days early this year. After passing my project manager exam on December 13th, I cleared the mountain of books and papers off my desk and started preparing this episode. In honour of this being the 50th show(!) here’s almost an hours worth of sonic delight – five remixes and five chiptunes, carefully selected for your enjoyment. And while the show doesn’t have a Christmas theme as such, the closing tune should be able to melt even the coldest of hearts and let the Commodore love flow freely. As usual mixed in with a brief recap of what’s been happening in the world of C64-related music. Enjoy!
Download or listen to the show (57:05, 102 Mb, MP3)

Nice! Just in time for my 12h plane ride from Singapore to Sweden.

Hi Jan, thanks for the link! I’ve done the same for you in my latest show (http://commoflage.heltperfekt.com/ plug, plug)… Regarding the iTunes thing, I haven’t looked into it but perhaps I should? No RSS link is just stupid, I have to fix that… Thanks again!

Thanks Jan and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

@Henrik:
Thanks for the counter-plug. Even if you did manage to pronounce it “C64 Takeout” rather than “Take-away”.
I see you’re using WordPress for your site. If you go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading and put in a number higher than 10 where it says “Syndication feeds show the most recent”, people won’t be limited to accessing the last ten shows via your feed and/or iTunes. I’ve got mine set to 100. Which should last the next 5-10 years at my current release schedule.

@Jan: hahaha, yes I probably did! I even managed to forget your name! I blame the cough medicine… I’ve applied for iTunes now as well, I’ll fix that setting too! Thanks for your help.

great new show, and even though I have heard Golden Axe many times in December, it is always nice to hear you play it.
I am not quite sure I got the c64anabalt canabalt thing, but I think it is a good thing because hopefully it will take me many listens to figure it out (and I am pretty sure it will
)
Btw I had not heard N-JOY – Warhawk (Halcón de la guerra mix) before but that is a really good take on a very fine piece of SID music

Hi, I’m sorry if I’m intruding, but I figured all interested in the commodore would enjoy this:
http://www.deedsofyore.com
It’s a web series about a guy in the 80′s who gets sucked into a Commodore game called “Deeds of Yore”. A real Commodore is prominently featured in the first episode.
Thanks!

Hey Jan! I just heard some great stuff over at http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=crudface
He has at least two C64 that he’s torn apart and turned into a keytar that he plays along with a couple of different synths! Enjoy! I know I did, especially this video:

Everything’s good here, thanks – been checking out some Steve Rowlands SIDs for use in an upcoming podcast today, but got sidetracked when I found an interview with his brother on YouTube:

Good to hear you are well
Upcoming podcast… today?! Really?? Might want to hold off on that until you see this:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2012/04/09/computer-legend-and-gaming-pioneer-jack-tramiel-dies-at-age-83/
He had a good run. May he rest in peace
P.S. Those interviews were great!!

Nah, not today (or yesterday, even). Got a couple of SID composers I want to feature on the next show, so I’m going through their collected works to pick two tracks before anything else.
My C64, VIC20 and myself are sad to hear about Tramiels passing – this was the first place I read about it, and I see that it’s all over Twitter this morning. But like you said, he had a good run – both at Commodore and at Atari.

Hehe, I was just being very optimistic when I said ‘today’
These things take time! Still, can’t wait to hear the next ep!
Yes the news of Tramiel was a bit of a sad surprise. Still, that’s why we are here, spreading the commodore love. His legacy will live on.
P.S. Listening to ep #45, hahah, I wasn’t looking for my 15 mins of online fame hahaha!! (@ 21 mins)

Jan! Glad to hear there’s a podcast in the queue at least…it’s always a treat when there’s a takeaway! Even if only two a year or so.
