Episode 051: Has it been 30 years already?

Introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 1982, and available to the public in August of 1982 – it’s everyone’s favourite computer: The C64. To coincide with the “C64 Month” campaign (Twitter + Facebook), here’s my contribution in the form of a new episode of the C64 Take-away. As usual the mix consists of a set of great chiptunes and remixes, blended in with a recap of what’s been happening in the world of C64-related music. Enjoy!

    Jan! Good to hear from you again! 2011 was a slow year my friend…*and in a hearty voice* Glad to see you’re back!

    I bought the new PPOT album before you even made mention of it on the show; I was moving into my new flat went back to their website craving some tunage and found there an entirely new album, so I picked it up off of iTunes.

    I particularly like “man with the gun” and that song about there’s nobody to tell me what to do with this day…good stuff! Keep it up! Keep the Scene Alive!

    D’oh! I completely forgot to mention my favorite tracks on the album: Gods, Nonterraqueous, Future Knight, Knuckle Buster, Lightforce and all of CD A. And that the “How to waste this day” track (which is my guilty pleasure on the album) was submitted to the Danish edition of the Eurovision Song Contest – sadly it didn’t qualify. 🙂

    While I don’t care much for Formula 1 Simulator, Human Race or Toasty Buns, the biggest disappoint on the album is Ghosts’n Goblins. It starts off as an awesome version of the rendition the lads have been perfecting over the years – and then halfway in, out of nowhere the vocals kick in and completely spoil it for me.

  12. The HVSC chaps used to have a newsletter that was great for staying up to speed on new releases. That being said, I can’t recall having received it for the past couple of updates. :/

  13. @Thurstan : I got word back from the HVSC crew saying that they lost control of their newsletter setup. Pestering them to find a replacement host now – suggest that everyone else who would like the mailing list to return do the same.

  17. Thanks for checking in on me, John. Unfortunately, all is not well.

    I was crossing the street (on foot) at a green light just outside our flat last Friday, when a car takes a left turn behind me. Having seen it as I walked into the second part of the zebra crossing I figured that the driver and I had made eye contact. Sadly, it turned out that the only thing he’d been on the lookout for was other cars, so he rammed me.

    Long story short: I’ve got a fractured fibula, and am now confined to the flat for the next 3-4 weeks.

  20. Thanks, John. Things are a lot better, but still not back to normal. While the fracture has healed nicely, I haven’t been able to stretch my leg fully since. I’m seeing a physiotherapist who has worked wonders so far, but lately progress has been somewhat stagnant.

    On the plus side, I’ve been OK’ed to use both my regular bike and my mountain bike, and am perfectly capable of riding both – which is a great mental relief. It’s amazing how spending a months time not really being able to go anywhere on your own will change your appreciation of movement.

    I’m sorry to hear that you’re not back to 100%, it’s a long process I suppose! At least you’ve got a physiotherapist to help you though, best thing for you at this stage.

    And hey! Even if progress has slowed a bit lately, at least you can ride your bikes! I can’t imagine how it must’ve been not being able to move independently on your own for all that time! However, a bit of fresh air and movement will do wonders for you, I suspect.
